From a short walk to a clear report.

No lab, no markers, no treadmill. Here is everything that happens between the moment a patient starts walking and the moment you read their gait report.

01 — The setup

One phone, on the thigh

On the thighThe phone sits on the outside of the thigh, held by a strap or a snug pocket, so it moves with the leg and not around it.

02 — The gait cycle

One stride, slowed down

ContactLoadingSupportPush-offSwing

Heel contact

The heel meets the ground and the leg takes the impact.

03 — The phone

The gait lab was already in the phone

  1. Case

The phone your clinic already has — or one kept aside for walking tests.

  2. Electronics

Keeps time and holds the recording until it is uploaded.

  3. Motion sensors

The same sensors that turn the screen when you rotate a phone. Here, they feel every step.

  4. Screen

Start the walk, check that it is recording, stop.

  5. Glass

One tap to start. Nothing to plug in.

No force plates, no cameras, no markers — motion sensors that ship in every smartphone, and the rest is AI.

04 — A session

A session, start to finish

Five steps, most of which happen without anyone lifting a pen.

  1. 01

    Consent

    Open the patient

Pick the patient in the app. Consent is recorded before the first walk, and identifiers are kept apart from the walking data.

  2. 02

    Thigh

    Attach the phone

Place the phone on the thigh so it moves with the leg.

  3. 03

    Short walk

    Walk

The patient walks at a comfortable pace for a short distance — a corridor is enough.

  4. 04

    Automatic

    AI analysis

The recording is analysed automatically. Nobody has to count steps or score the walk by eye.

  5. 05

    Timeline

    Report and follow-up

Read the report, talk it through with the patient, and compare it with the next visit.

05 — What you need

Less than you'd think

A smartphone

iOS or Android. The motion sensors it already has are all the hardware StepAnalyser uses.

A few metres of floor

A corridor or a quiet stretch of the practice is enough.

Patient consent

Recorded in the app before the first walk.

Nothing else

No force plates, cameras, markers or wearables to buy or calibrate.
